Had you always wanted a career in this industry?

After graduating from the European Institute of Design in Rome I started freelancing in Italy. It was exciting but after a while I realised that moving abroad would give me more chances to grow both as a person and as an artist. I packed my things and moved to London.

How did you find out about Escape Studios and what was it like?

I had known about Escape Studios for some time as they're held in high regard in Italy. I also knew of Escape’s strong industry connections which made it easy. The courses were amazing and the tutors outstanding. Everything exceeded my expectations and I’m a high expectations type of guy.

What happened after the course?

As soon as I finished the course I was working on 'Harry Potter' then '10.000 BC', but it was when I went to Bristol to work for Aardman Animations that I really felt I had found what I was looking for. I had never met so many talented people all In one place at one time, and there was a magical blend of art, technology and creativity.

What are you doing now?

I’m working on 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian' for MPC. It’s stunning how much a well thought out pipeline can substantially influence both quality and speed when there are so many people involved.

I'm also doing life drawing, painting and sculpting courses in London. Once you’ve learnt how to “see” form, shape and colour, it’s easy to transfer your skills to a digital medium, be it Zbrush, Maya or Painter.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering a course at Escape?

Make sure the concept of spending your whole life learning from your mistakes, colleagues and the world around you fascinates rather than scares you. Then bring determination, loads of humility (there's always going to be someone more experienced than you) and a pinch of bravery  (you'll need to make decisions on your feet that will effect everyone around you) and Escape will give you all the rest.
