Sixty Seconds with Featured Artist: Compositor Tara Roseblade

Sixty Seconds with Featured Artist: Compositor Tara Roseblade

The compositing industry is booming right now which is why we were grateful to Tara for taking a couple of minutes out of her busy day to answer a few questions about what it’s like working in the industry since leaving Escape Studios. Tara’s reel shows everything that a good junior compositing showreel should. It includes examples of roto, rig/wire removal, colour correction and some good CG comping.  Each shot is accompanied by a detailed breakdown - which is a great way of demonstrating these skills.

What was your course at Escape Studios like?
I loved it! Mark, our tutor, was a great teacher and I got a really good grounding in the field from it.

What have you been up to since leaving Escape Studios?
I've done everything from being a roto artist at a big film post facility to being a sole compositor for smaller companies.  I’ve been doing a bit of everything - the course gave me the tools to handle both straight away, which was a great thing.

What are you working on at the moment?
Currently I'm working on films at Double Negative and loving it, still referring back to tips Mark gave us on the course on a daily basis.

What would you say to someone wanting to get into Compositing?
Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty in the less-prestigious jobs! I see loads of people come in who want to do the minimum work possible in roto and move up straight away. Remember, roto may be boring, but you need to try and be the best roto artist you can be, not just for the benefit of your abilities, but because if you take every stage seriously, your superiors will see that, and you'll be taken seriously as a result.

  • Hi everyone

Thanks to all who expressed their interest in this. We've had an overwhelming response and actually had over 500 applications within 24 hours!

We're just working through all these now and will be in touch with the successful applicants soon. If you were not able to get on this time we will be doing these again in the future so keep an eye out for announcements and of course there are still a few places on the full courses starting in October and January.

    All the best
    Paul
